A gem beside the Tungabhadra - Galaganatha

The Shiva temple in the village of Galaganatha in north Karnataka is a most picturesque place. An auto ride from Guttal through narrow lanes past fields and villages takes about 30 minutes to reach the temple.

(Salman) Sallu Bhai, our auto driver delighted us with his company and conversation.

View of the temple with the Tungabhadra in the background.

The front porch of the temple, the friendly security guard and the river flowing behind.  How many countless people would have prayed here and enjoyed this serenity through the centuries.

Jantar mantar beside Ganga - Benaras

'View of the Ganga from the walls of the Jantar Mantar. This astronomical observatory constructed in the 18th century by Maharaja Jai Singh is full of instruments to measure and trace the movements of heavenly bodies. It is indeed heavenly to sit quietly beside these beautifully constructions with the eternal Ganga flowing quietly below.

The beautiful entrance to the observatory with the steps leading to the famous Dashashwamedh Ghat.

Benaras at night

Night at Benaras beside the Ganga is magical. After the commotion of the evening Arati on the ghats the place becomes very quiet along the riverfront. Steep ancient stairs climb past centuries old royal palaces.
